How To Stay Positive While Job Hunting

It’s hard not to feel frustrated when you have been searching for a job over a long period of time. The key thing to remember is that staying positive is vital to your job hunt success.

Fear not, here are some tips that could help you remain positive during your job search!

Self-care is a priority

Remember the safety announcement on airplanes? The one about putting on your oxygen mask before assisting others? Apply that to everything you do. Specifically in this case. If you're feeling bogged down searching for a job, do the things that make you feel good. This could be something simple, for example, getting sufficient sleep, drinking enough water, eating healthy and exercising. Change up your routine by taking a walk or hiking, connecting with friends, playing board games or even starting a new hobby such as sewing, cooking or reading.

Always, take care of yourself first!

Update your social media accounts

Prioritise updating your resume, LinkedIn profile, and other social media accounts that might set you apart from the rest of the crowd. For example, if you're applying for a job as a photographer, you would want your social media accounts, in this case it would be Instagram or LinkedIn to showcase your photography skills with a portfolio of your best shots.

Make it your full time job to get a job

Set up a routine as you would have with a job. Spend a set amount of time to search and apply for jobs. Essentially make looking for a job, your full time job. If you’re feeling tired, take a break like we mentioned in point one and start again later. The most important thing here is to never give up and just keep trying.

Get inspired by volunteering for a good cause

Give back to the community and causes that you care about. This can range from animal shelters, orphanages, etc. This shows potential employers that you are a well-rounded individual and care about things aside from yourself and second, it gives you the chance to slow down, relax and count your blessings.

Attend networking events

Networking events are great places to meet people from the same industry and gain insights on things you can improve.  Depending on the crowd, you could end up meeting your future boss. In fact, if you sell yourself well enough, you could even land an interview. The goal here is to go out and engage with more experienced people and learn a thing or two about the industry or job you are hoping to land.
